Your information
This page is for you, not for a grown-up. It explains what we know about you, who told us, and what you can ask us to do.
What this page is
Easy Comp Central is the website your dance club and competition organisers use to run competitions. If you dance at competitions, some information about you is probably on it.
There is a much longer version of this page written for adults. This one says the same things in fewer words. Nothing has been left out to make it sound nicer.
What we know about you
Usually this is all we have:
- Your name.
- Your date of birth. We need it to work out which age group you dance in, and nothing else.
- Which club you dance with, and which competitions you have entered.
- How you did: your placings and your results.
- Sometimes a photo, but only if a grown-up added one.
You did not tell us any of this
You do not have an account here and you have not agreed to anything. Your parent or carer typed your details in, or your dance club did.
That does not mean you have no say. The law gives you rights over information about you even when somebody else provided it. There is a list further down.
Who can see it
Only these people:
- The grown-up who looks after you, and anybody who runs your dance club.
- The people organising a competition you have entered, so they can put you in the right heat.
- The judges at that competition, who see the same things they would see on a paper list.
Your results are public
This is the one to know about. When you dance at a competition, your name and where you placed can be seen by anyone who looks at the results, the same way they always have been on a results sheet pinned to a wall.
If that worries you, talk to your parent or carer. They can ask us to show your initials instead of your full name on league tables.
Things we never do
We want to be clear about these:
- We never sell anything about you to anybody.
- We do not show you adverts.
- We do not follow you around other websites or apps, and we do not try to work out what you like.
How long we keep it
We keep it for as long as your grown-up or your dance club has an account with us. Stopping dancing does not remove anything on its own: somebody has to ask us, or your grown-up has to close their account. If they close it and nobody else is looking after your details, we take your name off them.
Results are different. We keep those, because they are the record of a competition that really happened, like an old programme or a trophy with names on it.
What you can ask for
You can ask us to:
- Show you everything we have about you.
- Fix anything that is wrong, like your name being spelled incorrectly.
- Delete your details. We will explain if there is any part we have to keep, and why.
If you are worried about something
The easiest thing is to tell your parent or carer, and ask them to email us at [email protected]. You can email us yourself if you would rather. We will not be annoyed, and we will answer you.
If you tell us and you are not happy with what we do about it, you or a grown-up can tell the Information Commissioner's Office. They are the people whose job is making sure organisations look after information about you properly.
